Birkbeck Department Of Earth And Planetary Sciences Launches The Only Distance Learning MSc In Geochemistry

London, UK - One of the University of London's most notable colleges is Birkbeck. It's the only university college to offer access to evening and weekend courses. Since its formation, Birkbeck continues to revolutionise university education.

In a new milestone, Birkbeck launched a new distance learning course MSc in Geochemistry. The Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences offers a two-year degree course. Students can study face-to-face or via distance learning, in an environment of active research.

Geochemistry distance learning course overview

Birkbeck offers a geochemistry MSc distance learning course. The first university to offer such a course, Birkbeck's aim is to make it accessible to all students.

The course gets taught using lectures streamed via video, supported by digital lecture notes. A combination of email, phone and Skype tutorials are also available to geochemistry students. Optional residential field classes and an electronic library are also on offer too.

Birkbeck students can also learn by attending the evening and Saturday lectures in London. The geochemistry MSc degree course starts in September 2015.

First-class education on a global scale

Spearheading the MSc degree course is Professor Karen Hudson-Edwards. She says it offers "an opportunity to learn the theory and practice of geochemistry."

She adds "we're excited to be able to offer the degree to students globally." Birkbeck’s popularity is ever increasing. Growing numbers of students flock to enrol in their courses.

Entry requirements

Students will need at least a 2:2 Honours degree in an earth or environmental science subject. Birkbeck also welcomes graduates from geology, geography, chemistry and biology backgrounds. They will also consider relevant related work experience too.

International students whose first language isn't English can also enrol. To enter, one must have a score of at least 6.5 on the IELTS Academic Test. Birkbeck will not accept students with a score less than 6.0 in each sub-test.
