CAMMS MD rouses miners on benefits of effective CPM
Joe Collins inspires mining industry influencers with presentation on "Increasing Corporate Returns through Effective CPM”
Founder and Managing Director of CAMMS, Joe Collins’ address on the strong link between achieving governance and Corporate Performance Management (CPM) in organisations received overwhelming response at the International Mining and Resources Conference (IMARC) and Exhibition last week.Corporate Performance Management is not a term that resonates with mining organisations generally, but the concept sits well with them and the benefits were made clear in Collins’ presentation on “Increasing Corporate Returns through Effective CPM”.
IMARC was held in Melbourne from the 22-26 September 2014 with special focus on promoting innovation to drive the future of mining.
Collins has a wealth of experience in creating management strategies for a range of large organisations around the world and the audience therefore, found his project centric presentation clearly demonstrated that CPM is both a management and governance tool that assists with decision making and accountability.
“Fundamentally, if you have a disconnect between value propositions from service delivery with your planning priorities and can’t link it back to reporting you have a problem. Get ready to lose a lot of money,” said Collins during his speech.
His presentation emphasised that CPM should link strategy execution, performance monitoring and reporting, enterprise risk management, portfolio, project and program management, employee resource management, performance assessment and personal development, financial planning and budget management, and business intelligence and analytics in a coherent and integrated fashion. Collins extrapolated that these linkages will enable the effective monitoring of outputs especially as organisations must bear in mind the impact a direct decision has on the field.
With an air of jovial conviviality Collins concluded, “A positive outcome is entirely possible with a well-integrated CPM framework that is supported by a holistic system, especially when organisations have a clear vision for their CPM system.”
