Fox Canyon Groundwater Management Agency Issues Notice of Public Workshop for Groundwater Sustainability Plan Development

Fox Canyon Groundwater Management Agency Issues Notice of Public Workshop for Groundwater Sustainability Plan Development, Nov. 15

The Fox Canyon Groundwater Management Agency (GMA) is holding a Public Workshop on Tuesday, Nov. 15, to discuss and receive comments on the development of Groundwater Sustainability Plans (GSPs) for the Las Posas Valley and Pleasant Valley  Basins, Oxnard Plain Sub-basin, and the western portion of the Arroyo Santa Rosa Valley Basin.

The workshop will provide the public and interested stakeholders with an opportunity to learn about the technical information and work being conducted by the Fox Canyon GMA’s consulting team and charter groups to develop the GSPs. Public participation and input is requested to help ensure that public and stakeholder concerns are heard and incorporated into the process and development of the GSPs, and to understand how decisions will be made. In addition, the public and stakeholders will be informed as to how local groundwater resources may be affected in the cities and communities where they reside.

Development of GSPs is required by the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act of 2014 and will affect pumping allocations for groundwater users within the Fox Canyon GMA.

The Fox Canyon GMA is an independent special district formed in 1982 and is legislatively charged with managing and protecting both confined and unconfined aquifers underlying the Arroyo Santa Rosa Valley, Las Posas Valley, Oxnard Plain, and Pleasant Valley. Groundwater within the jurisdiction of the Fox Canyon GMA accounts for more than half of the water needs of residents in the cities of Ventura, Oxnard, Port Hueneme, Camarillo, and Moorpark, and the unincorporated communities of Saticoy, El Rio, Somis, Moorpark Home Acres, Nyeland Acres, Leisure Village, Point Mugu and Montalvo.
