Press Release : ITIHAAS (Indian Traditions and Heritage Society), the leading Heritage Education provider has partnered with UP Tourism to create Lucknow Heritage Walks and Lucknow on Cycle. This is an initiative to showcase the royal grandeur and majestic monuments of the City of Nawabs, Lucknow. Through the walks the old world charm of the capital of the largest state of the country would also be highlighted.

A series of 24 Heritage walks and Lucknow on Cycles will be spread across 24 Sundays. The Walks and Lucknow by Cycles were flagged off on the World Tourism Day, Sunday the 27th of September at Lucknow by the Director General Tourism, Mr. Amrit Abhijat. Over 100 people including the District Magistrate of Lucknow attended the walk

The initial walk "The Kaiserbagh Walk” started at 7 am from Chhattar Manzil and covered more than 20 prominent spots including General Kothi, Kothi Farhat Baksh, Lak Baradari, Gulistan-e-Erum, Kothi Darshan Vilas, Saadat Ali Tomb, Tomb of Murshid Zadi among others.

The idea is to promote a heightened awareness of the heritage and uniqueness of the Awadhi culture and its traditions. The focus will be on reaching out to different groups of Professionals – Doctors, Engineers, Army Officers, Academicians, as well as leading social workers and other prominent Lucknow residents and to re-introduce them to their culture, heritage and legacy. This will be undertaken through a visit to the innumerable areas of interest and monuments that have been an integral part of the Lucknow since the olden times.

The Walks are a guided tour covering the best of the architectural heritage of Lucknow and sharing interesting stories about them. As the knowledge partner, ITIHAAS curated the available stories, validated them through historical references and sifted information to create content and audio codes for the walks.

The Government of Uttar Pradesh is committed to developing the tourism potential of the state which has a strong historical significance. UP already figures prominently in the realm of reckoning of most foreign and domestic tourists, but that is usually limited to Agra, as it is a part of the Golden Triangle Circuit. UP tourism and ITIHAAS are committed to creating alternate tourists spots that are seeped in history and yet not really showcased till date.

“It is an immense responsibility to be the knowledge partner for UP tourism in its quest for integrating other historical / traditional places in the tourism milieu. ITIHAAS has already been working with creating awareness about the heritage and tradition of our rich culture and history for over a decade and this is yet another opportunity to remind people of who we are and what we represent”, says Smita Vats, Founder-Director, ITIHAAS.
