MICRODIA Launches Worlds First Tiny OTG Card Reader-Charger Combo

This On-The-Go (OTG) Tiny Card Reader is the world’s first card reader that offers a charging function in addition the its card reading capability. It is also the only OTG of its kind.

USA, January 16, 2015 – MICRODIA Semiconductor Ltd. (MICRODIA) launched its Micro-Flash On-The-Go (OTG) Reader with a cable-less charging function. The OTG Reader enables users to not only plug it in and use it to charge their mobile or smart device, but also to use it as a USB flash drive, a card reader or an OTG data transfer device. As a plug’n’ play device, users can expect to immediately use the OTG Reader with a USB-enabled host device. Utlra-slim casing and a mini-lanyard provide the user with a convenient, tiny form factor that caters to work, creative pursuits and travel.

Employed as a Charger

Flicking the switch to the cable symbol turns the OTG Reader into a card reader into a carrier of electrical current. The user can then charge their mobile or smart device via a standard USB port. The OTG Reader plugs directly into the USB port. There is no cable. Charging time depends on the host machine and the device itself. In general, the OTG Reader’s operating voltage is 5V.

Used as a Card Reader

When the user flicks the OTG Reader’s switch to the memory card symbol, the OTG Reader becomes an external USB flash memory drive. The user can hot swap microSD flash memory cards up to 128GB to increase their device’s native capacity without disturbing the originally-bundled flash memory card. Or the user can leave a microSD flash memory card in the OTG Reader, thus transforming it into a permanent USB flash drive.

Quote from the CEO of MICRODIA

“This OTG Reader merges function and design to create one of the most user-friendly products in the MICRODIA portfolio,” said Mr. Louis Leung, CEO of MICRODIA Ltd. “The OTG Reader is especially suited to users always on the go. For example, typically, late night and early morning are dominated by mobile phones, while desktops and laptops are king during working hours. Early evening and prime time are usually the domain of tablets. So, the OTG Reader is the perfect solution for transferring data between these media.”
