Boasting double-digit growth in sales over the last 6 years, it is not surprising that the company has had to expand once again.  "I am thrilled about this expansion", said Faten Hodroge, president of the company. "This is our third expansion in the last six years. We simply need more space.” With over 7,000 SKUs of costumes, the company is adding on average 1,000 new SKUs a year.

One of the advantages of an online webstore is they are not limited by retail space, which allows an online store to carry a significantly larger selection than a traditional retailer. Even mega stores can’t compete with the selection of online stores.

But online Halloween Costume stores are facing growing competition of their own. Long gone are the days when a few online stores were operating in the Halloween market. “We always had to compete with US websites but the competition is getting tougher, particularly over the last two years.” Increasingly, US websites are fronting their operation with a Canadian domain, although their inventory is still being shipped from the US.  Beyond that, Amazon and Wal-Mart are now offering costumes on their Canadian websites and aggressively undercutting on price and shipping promotion. 

Canadian based Oya Costumes is still confidently facing the future. “There are more players, big players, but the Halloween costume market is still growing and we believe a speciality player can compete with the big market place. But you can never stay still, otherwise you will fall behind.”
