Eugene, OR – Software Development Resource updates its free software resource lineup and further refinement of their previous free book reader converters. The release of their free mobi reader makes it a better companion for Kindle readers who also want the idea of flexibility when reading across platforms.

MOBI Files in a Nutshell

In some download sites, files with an extension of .mobi may seem foreign for people who have only known .pdf and .epub files [as the two are the most common standards based on what device is used]. MOBI files were developed by a then independent Mobipocket ebook provider. It has since been acquired by Amazon to be one of their standard formats.

Mobi is one of the known open ebook publication formats for distribution. Common devices that use it are mobile, like Amazon’s Kindle.

But despite its ubiquity given the popularity of Kindle among avid readers [because it has been the first of its kind in the world of mobile ebook reading], apparently previous readers who are stuck at desktop reading still adopted epub as standard and for most others, pdf is also more popular. The problem arises due to this complication. Not all desktop readers can open mobi files that for now are almost always exclusive to small devices [mobile phones].

There are dedicated mobi file readers out in the market today and SDR offers one for FREE. The previous releases focused much on converting the usual ebook file formats to acquiesce with that of MOBI but SDR’s solution is much easier.

SDR’s free mobi reader can do this trick and has features of all the other major platform readers present today, it’s just 100% free.
