PODS® Houston joins effort to help ‘can’ hunger for 20th Canstruction food drive

A PODS container will be donated by PODS® Houston to serve as the official headquarters and staging ground for build day.

Got cans? The 20th Annual Canstruction Houston food drive will help Houston Food Bank’s efforts to restock its shelves for the upcoming holiday season. A PODS container will be donated by PODS® Houston to serve as the official headquarters and staging ground for build day.

Taking place Nov. 5th from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at CITYCENTRE, Houston’s premier retail, dining and residential community. Canstruction brings together teams of local architects, engineers, construction industry professionals and students in a competition to see who can build the best “cansculpture.”  The end result will be judged from 3-5 p.m. in an impressive exhibition of visually stunning sculptural designs.

To get Houstonians in the spirit of the holiday season, the public is also invited to build “can-trees” from 4-6 p.m. at the PODS container with radio 96.5 the mix.

“PODS is honored to be chosen as the main headquarters for the 20th annual Canstruction Houston and to help raise awareness of food insecurity during the holiday season,” said Tim Preston, Vice President and General Manager of PODS Houston. “For the Houston community to come together to build cansculptures and help those in need is a true testament to the charitable spirit of this city.”

In 2015, Canstruction generated 125,553 canned goods, enabling the food bank to distribute 98,971 meals to Houston’s hungry in their greatest time of need.   Canstruction hopes to exceed last year’s levels and invite the public out from 4-6 p.m. to view the elaborate display of charity and architectural genius.

“We want to thank PODS Houston for playing an integral part in this year’s CANstruction event,” said Brian Greene, Houston Food Bank President & CEO. “The logistics assistance they are providing is much needed and appreciated to help bring awareness to those in need this holiday season.”
