Not only brushing your teeth before sleeping is gross but it is actually harmful as well. Dental associations recommend to brush those teeth twice a day but to also floss at least once a day. Brushing your teeth is one of the easiest ways to prevent dental problems but it also helps keep the breath beyond fresh. It is so important that skipping a session means you are on your way to encouraging bacteria growth and build-up in your mouth. We all know that these can result to gum disease, tooth decay and all sorts of dental issues.
If you take a look at your teeth or feel it in the middle of the day, you’ll see something fuzzy or feel something sticky. This is actually plaque and this is something that you need to get rid of at the end of the day. Brushing also disrupts the bacteria present in the mouth so it doesn’t stay in place and cause build-up. If the bacteria remain stagnant in between the teeth or around the teeth, it begins to attack it. And, the longer that it stays in place, it is prone to develop into tartar. The tartar is the hard yellowish material between the teeth. This can cause bleeding and inflamed gums. If left untreated, it can induce gum diseases and risk tooth loss.
Though there’s no precise timeline of when the tartar becomes risky, but one thing is for sure the process of getting a cavity starts by not brushing once. Needless to say, there’s not telling if your occasional neglect or forgetfulness is more common than you would like to admit. Just the same, a mediocre brushing can be just as bad. The brushing twice daily and flossing once a day routine is not a joke. This is an important routine to make sure that the gums and teeth are clean and healthy. Dentists suggest to use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste to brush the teeth. Each brushing session should be about two minutes to make sure all surfaces of the teeth are properly cleaned and not just the parts that we see when we talk or smile. Going to the dentist regularly for a dental cleaning is helpful to get rid of tartar or plaque build-up, which only a dentist can thoroughly clean.
Gums, mints and mouthwash are helpful to make sure that the mouth is clean and fresh after eating, but these can never replace brushing and flossing. In fact, these are only considered as supplements in the oral hygiene routine. Only brushing and flossing can physically and effectively remove the plaque and all those three can do is give the mouth a fresher feel.
So, make a conscious effort to do your oral hygiene care routine before going to sleep at night and your teeth will thank you for it! http://oakvilledentistry.com/
