Prof. Dr. Deiary Kader, Consultant Orthopedic and Trauma Surgeon & Knee specialist, Epsom & St. Helier University Hospitals NHS Trusts recently confirmed his participation as one of the speakers for the congress. In a short pre-event interview with the marketing team at MarketsandMarkets, Prof. Dr. Kader spoke about recent advances in MIS and also a few challenges that need immediate attention. He said, “There has been a significant development in computer assisted orthopaedic surgery and customised implants for knee replacement and such technology is becoming more affordable than before and much more functional and slick than it was 15 years ago. Intuitively one would think that customised implants and patient specific instrumentation would be primary choice of surgeons and their patients, but there are many niggling factors that have been preventing people from adopting this technology such as the prolonged wait for the implant to be built, heavy reliance on engineers to build it, high cost, radiation exposure and more importantly the lack of evidence that knee alignment and orientation improves with the new technology.” According to Prof. Dr. Kader, the immediate challenge of MIS is to arrange few level-one studies that look into the best ways of calculating implant alignment and rotation and how to replicate the human anatomy.

Prof. Dr. Kader will be presenting on ‘Advances and controversies in Patellofemoral joint surgery’ at the congress, a topic that will delve into the role of non-surgical therapies and surgical interventions in the treatments. He is a fellowship trained knee and sport medicine surgeon with an extensive experience in knee ligament reconstruction, primary/revision knee arthroplasty, multilligament reconstruction and patellofemoral joint instability. Joining Prof. Dr. Kader will be leading experts from organizations such as Golden Jubilee National Hospital NHS Trust; Royal Orthopedic Hospital NHS Trust; Mater Private Hospital, Dublin – Ireland; Barts Health NHS Trust; Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust; Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead; Imperial College, London; and Southtees Hospitals NHS Trust.
