Energime University Responds to NAS Report on Geoengineering of Climate

Albany, NY (February 19, 2015) – Energime University, the world’s first nonprofit global platform for sustainable education, announced today that it has reviewed a new report, issued on February 10, 2015, by National Academy of Sciences (NAS) on geoengineering of the planet’s climate as a way to offset expected damages from climate change.

The first-of-its-kind NAS report recommended research, studies and testing of methods to cool the Earth by injecting sulfur pollution high into the atmosphere to reflect the sun's heat. That method is called solar radiation management, SRM, or the “artificial cloud concept.” A second, less drastic measure, is to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and store it in the earth. The second measure, the panel noted, although less invasive, is more expensive and would take a decade or more to reap results.Solar radiation management, SRM, even if it succeeded in deflecting the sun’s heat to cool the earth, would not help the matter of ocean acidification.

“Governments around the world are now considering attempting to address our climate issues by artificially altering our atmosphere to slow down climate change and global warming. What level of arrogance makes anyone believe that this could possibly be a good idea? When man attempts to act like god, history has proven time and time again that the results are never as intended and there are always unintentional and unpredictable consequences. Are we willing to gamble with the very health of our planet and the lives of our population on such a far-fetched and unproven concept?

What if we overshoot our mark and usher in a new ice age? Will the release of sulfur into the upper atmosphere increase the acidity of the Oceans as the sulfur transforms into sulfuric acid wiping out the remainder of phytoplankton in our Oceans essentially destroying the upper level of our food chain and rendering the oceans lifeless? Will the release of sulfur lower global temperatures thereby encouraging more use of fossil fuels such as coal and oil, so much so that we permanently destabilize the chemical balance of our atmosphere, soils, and global water systems with CO2? Think about that last question and consider whose interests that might be supporting and why this solution is even being floated out there and seriously considered. This is desperate, short sighted, greed driven insanity!

Our authorities have no idea how to solve our current challenges of global environmental destruction and resource miss-management and that is the reason they are even considering such rash and risky actions. We have an immediate need right now to provide the specific knowledge, direction, and empowerment to our leaders and general population on a global scale in order to reverse our current course if we are to save our planet and our children's future.
