Courtney Place or Victoria Lookout are only 2 minutes drive (or 10 minutes walk if you prefer that), there is an easy off street parking and the bus literally stops by the house. There is free, unlimited Wifi, 42 inch flat screen TV + dvd and a huge queen bed with new mattress to enjoy as well.
Your hosts are super awesome, young couple working for Peter Jackson's movie studio, Weta. If you are a LOTR or Hobbit fan, they can surely show you where the cool places are in town, such as the Weta Cave with their life size cave trolls.
Roseneath is one of the nicest places of Wellington, overlooking Oriental bay and the whole city. The view is just breath taking at night (and pretty amazing daytime too). The 180 degrees view is exactly the same you would enjoy from the top of Mt. Victoria Look out!
Btw: There are more bars and restaurants in Wellington per capita than anywhere in the world. The food is amazing, people are super friendly, after all this is the Middle of Middle Earth, what else you could wish for.
