AT WORK, A HOT CUP USUALLY GUARANTEES A COOL DAY!

I am not in the least bit superstitious. Although I do feel queer when I see a black cat if I am alone at night, there’s a full moon out, and Police have just given a Werewolf warning. Lately though, I have come to sense a certain pattern in my working life. It’s a kind of personal weather forecast for me or a barometer to determine whether I have a wow day or a truly rotten one. And it all happens with the coffee at work.

Now before you denounce me as some kind of existential nut (pun intended); hear me out. You just might be amongst the 65% of my colleagues at work who have an uncannily similar experience. So here goes.

This system of foretelling the future is based entirely on my office coffee. And here’s the truly mysterious side to it all. It doesn’t matter what type or blend. All that matters is the temperature of the cup. Strangely, in a curious cosmos –inverse way, I have found that the hotter the cup of the dark liquid I slug down, the better or cooler my day becomes. Weird, huh?

Cold Coffee= Office on fire, Boss displeased. Someone gets fired.

Lukewarm =  A so, so day.  Everything just drags along to a vague unsatisfactory non finish.

Hot Coffee = Look out world.  I’m on a roll! All is perfect and I just might get a raise before I am done.  

Now, I am thinking I am on to something real here; I could even use this system to figure out if I should run for Mayor or something. Then Bob, our resident analyst of everything had to go and bust my bubble. This is Bob’s analysis:

Cold = Coffee Machine (www.purebean.com.au/) is broken again, so of course everyone, not just me, is suffering caffeine withdrawal, tend to be snappish, low on energy, which just sucks for everyone and makes work a drag.

Lukewarm= Machine is okay, but there’s too much work in the office so everyone’s coffee grows cold while we juggle a million things. We end up not achieving much because we are trying to achieve too much.

Hot = Normal work day with the automatic maker purring nicely along. Everyone has frequent top-ups, and all that caffeine pushes us into over drive. Everyone is just rearing to go and it’s infectious.

And then he asks me to observe that 65% of my colleagues agree with me. Might I add the other 35% by a super weird coincidence appear to be non-drinkers?  Anyway, Bob, smart Aleck that he is, doesn’t realize one thing. That I was and I am, still right. It all inevitably comes down to the coffee. And I am still running for mayor someday.
