Celebrate Summer at Operation Kindness’ Dog Day Afternoon

Annual Festival Benefiting No-Kill Shelter Celebrates 21 Years on June 6

Gather the pups and come out to Operation Kindness’ Dog Day Afternoon — the largest festival in Dallas celebrating dogs and the people who love them. The 21st annual free event will be held Saturday, June 6, 2015, at Flag Pole Hill near White Rock Lake.

Operation Kindness, the original and largest no-kill animal shelter in North Texas, created dog Day Afternoon in 1994 to recognize dog supporters, adopters and advocates. The free event serves as a way to raise awareness for the nonprofit and has evolved into a public festival for all things canine.

“We are so excited for this year’s 21st annual Dog Day Afternoon,” says Jim Hanophy, Operation Kindness CEO. “It’s such a pleasure to see so many pet lovers and their dogs coming together to enjoy themselves.”

Sponsored by Pet Supplies Plus, Dog Day Afternoon will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. – rain or shine – at Flag Pole Hill, 8100 Doran Circle in Dallas. Admission and parking are free. Highlights include:

• “Mutt Midway” with dozens of vendors selling a wide variety of pet-related merchandise, puppy kissing booth and games with prizes
• Goodie bags for the first 750 humans
• Canine contests for trophies and prizes, including: Best Costume, Stupid Pet Tricks, and Best Pooch Smooch, sponsored by Natural Balance Pet Foods
• Food trucks selling an assortment of food and drinks
• Dallas Dog and Disc Club Performances
• Free “Ask the Trainer” tent
• Free “Ask the Vet” tent featuring Rutherford Veterinary Clinic
