FOOD Share’s Inaugural Blue Jean Ball Finds Home at Walnut Grove

Walnut Grove at Tierra Rejada Farms hosts regional food bank’s signature fundraiser

FOOD Share’s inaugural Blue Jean Ball is coming to the beautiful Walnut Grove at Tierra Rejada farms on Thursday September 15th from 5-9pm.  The regional food bank’s signature fundraiser will help raise the support necessary to feed the one in six Ventura County residents who is still food insecure.

The first ever ball is shaping up to be the charity event of the season, with a denim carpet, extensive local food and beverage line-up, dancing, and live entertainment provided by Jade Hendrix and Justin Honsinger.  An interactive “Jail ‘N Bail” featuring local celebrities will provide additional entertainment as a Sheriff wanders the event arresting the wanted and they work to raise bail money in support of FOOD Share.

Tierra Rejada Farm’s relationship with FOOD Share dates back to the 1970’s, when the “pick-your-own” farm and roadside market was on Sunset Valley Road.  Whenever the farm was blessed with surplus crops, owner Rick Brecunier would call on FOOD Share volunteers to glean the crops for distribution to Ventura County’s hungry friends and neighbors.  The farm has   generously donated Walnut Grove, its popular outdoor wedding and event venue, to FOOD Share as the stunning backdrop for the Blue Jean Ball.

“We are very pleased to have the opportunity to host the Blue Jean Ball for the benefit of FOOD Share,” said Walnut Grove at Tierra Rejada Farms owner Rick Brecunier.  “It has been very heartening to see the tremendous growth of their organization over the years and we want to do everything we can to support their efforts.”

“Solving hunger is not a challenge that FOOD Share can tackle alone – it’s a community wide effort that requires the support and partnership of countless individuals and organizations across Ventura County,” said FOOD Share President & CEO Bonnie Atmore.  “1 in 6 Ventura County residents is still food insecure, and while we’ve made amazing progress as a community, we still have a long way to go.  Our partners know and understand this reality, which is why so many are willing to help us.  We’re so grateful for the partnership of Tierra Rejada Farms because in addition to supporting the Blue Jean Ball, they are helping us raise awareness of the continued need our hungry friends and neighbors face every day.”

Individual tickets are available for $75 per person, and reserved tables for 10 are available for $650.  Visit www.foodshare.com/bluejeanball for tickets and additional information.
