There is probably nothing scarier as a homeowner than to be haunted by the idea of having pests living in your property. The threat does not only apply to the specific plants and trees that they tend to be attracted to, but it is also more real to human beings and animals alike. Aside from their potential to cause irreversible damage to some forms of plant life and trees, some of these pests are also known to carry some diseases that can affect the human health dangerously.

If you have children in your home who love spending time outdoors especially if you have a beautiful landscape and inviting garden, consider some form of precaution and protection until you are sure that these pests are seriously take cared of.

As of late, a list of pests that you should be mindful of has penetrated the United States area.

  1.      Formosan Subterranean Termites

This species of termite is known to be invasive by nature. It was transported from Southern China, considered to be its origin, to various countries such as Formosa and Japan to mention some. It is known as the “super termite,” having the capacity to chew through wood, flooring, furniture, and wallpaper without being detected. To identify this kind of termite species, look for the following characteristics: creamy to white brown body, 1/2-inch body length, 6 legs, and antennae. This type of termite is usually found in North and South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, Virginia, Texas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Hawaii, Florida, and California.

  1.      Asian Tiger Mosquitoes

This type of mosquito is also popularly known as the “tiger mosquito” that traces its origin in Southeast Asia. In some countries, it is also called the “forest mosquito.” Its female species lay their eggs in clean and stagnant water typically found in unturned containers, unused tires that stored water due to rain and other spaces that may have allowed water to stay for an extended period. This type of mosquito is also the known carrier of diseases such as dengue fever, Chikungunya and West Nile virus. 

  1.      Africanized “Killer” Bees

This type of bee that is also best known as the Africanized “honey bee” was first recognized in the 1950s. It is a hybrid species of bees that traces its biological origins from the bees in Southern Africa and Brazil. They are dangerous due to their tendency to sting people when agitated or extremely excited. They are commonly present in Southern California, Southern Nevada, Texas, Arizona, Oklahoma, Western Louisiana, Southern Arkansas, New Mexico, and Southern and Central Florida.

  1.      Red Imported Fire Ants

This South African ant species also known as the “fire ant” deliver a very painful sting on its victims. It also disrupts the growth of a lot of plants due to the large soil mounds that it creates as its nest. It was first recognized in Texas around 2002 and has been considered one of the most challenging pests to manage.

  1.      Brown Marmorated Stink Bugs

This type of bug attacks crops, vegetables, fruits, and ornamental plants alike without mercy. During the cold season, it has also been observed that it tends to seek refuge inside homes.
