Ventura County Public Works Agency announces Michaela Brown as Director of Water and Sanitation


Brown brings more than 25 years of in-depth engineering experience along with detailed experience in consensus building, land-use, customer service, rate setting, and community outreach.

The Ventura County Public Works Agency has named Michaela Brown as the Director of the Agency’s Water and Sanitation Department. Brown is scheduled to start on June 20.

Brown brings more than 25 years of in-depth engineering experience along with detailed experience in consensus building, land-use, customer service, rate setting, and community outreach. Prior to joining the County, Brown was the director of facilities planning for the U.S. Navy base that supports the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Previously, she served in various program and engineering management positions in the United States and abroad, including a 20-year career in the Navy's Civil Engineer Corps.

Brown has an undergraduate degree in civil engineering from the University of Virginia, a M.S. in civil engineering from Texas A&M and a master’s of international policy and practice from George Washington University.

“We are delighted to have found a consummate professional to lead our VCPWA team at Water and Sanitation during such a critical time in our state’s history,” said Jeff Pratt, Director of the VCPWA. “Michaela Brown brings experience and expertise that are critical in helping VCPWA work through the many challenges and issues related to water, wastewater and solid waste in California, and Ventura County in particular.”

Brown will relocate to Ventura County with her husband, Kevin, and 11 year-old daughter, Bridget.
